Any time anyone ponders whether or not we should consider climate change or gun safety laws seriously in the national conversation, the Republican Party and its ilk begin telling everyone it’s not the time to make things political. Any time an adult Republican operative is attacked in the media, conservatives freak out about “civility.” Of course, anytime there are children who can use their own voices to speak on a topic, with an opinion that does not jibe with the Republican Party’s oligarchical aspirations, the gloves are off. On Monday night, racist charlatan Fox News broadcaster Laura Ingraham, not to be confused with this Fox News personality or these idiots or this guy, decided to go after Greta Thunberg. Thunberg delivered an impassioned speech directly calling out lawmakers around the world for their complicity in the climate change crisis we are facing.
Because people like Ingraham do not have any actual evidence to argue their positions, and their convictions shift with the hot air coming out of Donald Trump’s face, they try in their lame way to attack the people they wish would stop pointing out their moral and intellectual failings. So on Monday, Ingraham vaguely implied that Greta Thunberg was some kind of globalist Manchurian candidate, ending with a dig at her being one of the children from Steven King’s Children of the Corn. It was a grotesque display coming from an already ugly person. Ingraham’s brother, Curtis, who is staunchly anti-Trump, decided that this new low fell far below the belt and let the world know.
xClearly my sister’s paycheck is more important than the world her three adopted kids will inherit. I can no longer apologize for a sibling who I no longer recognize. I can and will continue to call out the monstrous behavior and the bully commentary born out of anger. https://t.co/afrSuraQqt
— Curtis Ingraham (@CurtisIngraham1) September 24, 2019Curtis Ingraham told NBC News in September of last year that he believed his sister to “be a monster,” saying that “her emotional heart is just kind of dead.” He has also publicly wondered aloud whether or not she is a Nazi sympathizer.
The right wing of the country has very quickly moved to attacking Thunberg for her age, for her hair, for everything except her ideas and the movement she symbolizes. Ingraham and other right-wing charlatans’ seemingly pathological adherence to an alternate reality propaganda campaign is so gothic in its presentation and scope at this point, I suspect George Orwell would have believed it to be unrealistic.
