On Sunday night, Game 5 of the 2019 World Series was played in Washington, D.C. The Houston Astros faced off against the Washington Nationals and renowned philanthropist and chef José Andres threw out the first pitch.
Donald Trump also showed up at the game with his wife and a few bootlicking Republicans. When an announcement was made via the public address system that Trump was in the building, he and his party stood up and his image appeared on the jumbo screen above center field. The result: The crowd loudly booed and jeered him, a chant of “Lock him up!” could be clearly heard, and the internet wasted no time in passing around videos of the moment.
Most people understood what was happening: A wildly unpopular and polarizing president, who is suspected of being an actual criminal, was hearing how people really felt about him.
xThe real problem is that Trump isn’t being booed every waking moment of his life until his last tendril of sanity snaps like that guy in the Edgar Allen Poe story.

And then there was the predominantly privileged class of media pundits that began fretting over “civility” and “respect for the office” of the chief executive. MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough most prominent amongst them.
xSo let’s see if I’ve got this straight: When crowds chant “Lock her up†toward Hillary, it is illiberal and anti-American. (I agree). But when crowds chant the same toward Trump, it is suddenly a fulsome exercise of sacred First Amendment rights. What hypocritical clowns.
— Joe Scarborough (@JoeNBC) October 28, 2019
Now, Joe Scarborough has always been this guy. His attacks on Trump are the least any sensible person can do. Attempting to draw a parallel between Trump and his minions LEADING chants of “Lock her up” when there was no evidence of anything even resembling a crime, with an audience of traditionally conservative baseball fans spontaneously booing someone who is credibly accused of numerous crimes is idiotic. And the internet has a longer memory than it is frequently given credit for.
xSorry Joe, you don't get to put democracy in a time out. Sorry Joe, it feels like you want the rest of us to forget that you played an instrumental role in getting Trump elected & now you want to play revolutionary with the coiffed hair.Sorry Joe, we remember.#SorryJoe https://t.co/H5vQdA65ZY

Yup.
xThe misrule, cruelty and infantilism of this administration is such that some sense of an enduring ethos is actually redeemed when we the people openly express our contempt. Dissent is the most American thing there is -- and to get clean, we need as much as there is on display. https://t.co/hmp4JHr8nD

And there’s more.
xSorry Joe, you are wrong on that. 1A compels that we scream the truth from the rooftops & bleachers. And I am so proud that my fellow Americans stepped up to the plate.

Just because you have a television show and a microphone doesn’t mean you get to do all the talking.
xSorry Joe, it’s the average American’s way of saying no one is above the law.
— Joan Cole (@joanaski) October 28, 2019
Because #LockHimUp is as American as apple pie and all those things Joe Scarborough thinks he’s talking about.
xSorry @Morning_Joe, but we the people protest because we are free to do so. Read Thoreau on Civil Disobedience. Protest is critical in a democracy! Trump deserves to face the people & know their displeasure! We the people are #DissobedientRT over & over!

Some people wanted to point out that Joe is pretty far gone when it comes to self-awareness.
x"We are Americans..." said #MorningJoe. Look at that diverse group at his table. #SorryJoe You still don't see US pic.twitter.com/HduODZzEmY

And here’s a history lesson:

And just so we don’t forget, there was also Democratic Sen. Chris Coons doing what he does best: having zero convictions.
xxJUST NOW: Dem Sen @ChrisCoons not happy with the "Lock him up " chants at World Series last night."Frankly think the office of the president deserves respect, even when the actions of our president at times don't. "@NewDay pic.twitter.com/OJwZfv9Vp8

Dear Senator @ChrisCoons, in a country that is supposed to be run by a government OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, AND FOR THE PEOPLE, perhaps you should try listening to THE PEOPLE. If you're having a hard time with that, maybe you're in the wrong business. Or the wrong country. pic.twitter.com/K4rXilHSal

Get on the right side of history, Sen. Coons, or you are going to get left behind.
