GiveGreen, a joint fundraising effort by top environmental groups NextGen America, LCV Victory Fund, and NRDC Action Fund PAC, allows voters to donate to any of nine presidential contenders who have expressed commitment to combatting climate change as a top priority. They've now added a tenth option: Anybody But Effing Trump.
The "Beat Trump Presidential Climate Unity Fund" allows donors to pool money that will go to whichever candidate clinches the Democratic nomination to take on Trump and his team of industrial cronies. But the effort is also intended to push Trump-opposing candidates to "be ambitious and make climate change a top priority."
“Given that President Trump is the most anti-environmental president we’ve ever had by far, we are absolutely committed to ensuring that [the] eventual nominee on the Democratic side, that she or he has the resources to win, to beat Trump, and to move forward on the climate action we desperately need,” Tiernan Sittenfeld, senior vice president for government affairs at the League of Conservation Voters, told BuzzFeed News.At this point an old sock would make a better environmental steward than anyone Donald Trump has surrounded himself with. By creating a pool of donations focused specifically on the urgent need for climate action, GiveGreen seeks to offset the campaign cycle's usual aggressive corporate donations by the fossil fuel industry—a group that has long promised candidates cash for looking the other way on climate issues.
